This is such a wonderfully cleansing tea to drink throughout the day — a mix of fresh ginger root, turmeric root, cinnamon, and fresh lemon create a warming spiced cider. Most importantly, these ingredients reduce inflammation in the body. Use the recipe below to maximize its anti-inflammatory effect, or feel free to add a dash of cayenne pepper or fresh honey to taste.
Ingredients
6-8 cups filtered water
5-6 inch fresh ginger root, peeled & sliced thinly at an angle
3-4 inch fresh turmeric root, peeled & sliced thinly (or 1 t. turmeric powder)
2 small cinnamon sticks or 1 large
fresh lemon juice
Directions
Heat filtered water over high heat in a medium saucepan. Once boiling, place ginger and turmeric root slices into water and let boil on high heat for 2-3 minutes. Then cover, reduce heat to low, and gently simmer for 20 minutes.
Add cinnamon sticks and continue simmering tea for another 15 to 20 minutes.
Ladle into a cup, squeeze some fresh lemon into it, and stir. You can continue to add filtered water to the simmering pot, and have tea throughout the day. The longer the tea cooks down, the deeper and more spiced the flavor becomes, and you’ll notice the color is richer with every cup.
Enjoy!
