“Blood tonics” (as they’re called in Chinese medicine) are incredibly beneficial to the body, especially for women who tend have low iron levels (anemia) due to heavy menstrual cycles and/or diet. They are used medicinally to nourish the body by strengthening and purifying the blood and improving circulation. This sweet, slightly earthy & delicious smoothie does just that. *If on a strict anti-inflammatory cleanse, omit the prunes, hemp hearts, and chia seeds.
Ingredients
1/2 – 1 medium beet, chopped (amount depends how much you like the flavor of beets. I love them and always use a whole one…)
3 fresh kale leaves
1 c. fresh spinach
2/3 c. raspberries (frozen or fresh)
2 pitted prunes
3 T. goji berries
1 T. hemp hearts
1 t. chia seeds
1 t. spirulina
juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 c. water or unsweetened coconut milk
*If using fresh raspberries rather than frozen, add 2 ice cubes to smoothies as well
Directions
Pour all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until smooth. Enjoy!
